Wilderness Aware |
Wilderness Aware Rafting has been guiding Boy and Girl Scout whitewater trips since 1976. We take our responsibility very seriously and know that you have a responsibility as a leader to the parents of your scouts to provide an experience that is exciting, yet within the bounds of reasonable risk. Wilderness Aware company owner Joe Greiner is an Eagle Scout and member of The Order of the Arrow. He attended the Philmont Scout Ranch and participated in the 1977 National Scout Jamboree at Moraine State Park in Pennsylvania. He has been his son Benjamin's Cub Scout Den leader for the past four years and is looking forward to participating in Benjamin's scouting career as he continues along the Boy Scout Trail. Joe has owned Wilderness Aware Rafting since 1985 and created Wilderness Aware's Whitewater Merit Badge Program. Girl Scouts from the local Wagon Wheel Council have been sending troops and day camp participants our way for many years. Feel free to contact Marty Lockhart at the council office at 719-597-8603 extension 30 for a reference. Our trips will help meet Juniors badge requirements for many badges such as "Water Fun" and"Wildlife". For Cadets and Seniors we can help with the "High Adventure Interest Project", "Water Sports", and "Paddle, Pole and Roll" badges. Boy Scouts from around the country have joined us as part of a trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in nearby New Mexico or as a destination for a high adventure trip. We are happy to provide instruction for the Whitewater Merit Badge on full-day and overnight trips. We have developed a complete syllabus and itinerary, whitewater trip planner and a fun post trip test to assure complete requirement compliance. The "First Aid" merit badge is a prerequisite for the badge. Your troop committee should compare our syllabus and itinerary with the official Whitewater Merit Badge requirements to completely understand our program. Our minimum group size for this trip is seven. Contact us if you have a smaller group and we will try to add you to an existing trip with another troop. Remember, leaders should ideally have someone certified in Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat. You can get online certification here. Scouts wishing to fulfill the requirements for the Whitewater Merit Badge will need to first complete the necessary first aid requirements, read Safety Afloat* and be familiar with the Safety Code of American Whitewater. (*used with authors permission.) A whitewater rafting trip on a Girl Scouts of the USA or Boy Scouts of America sponsored outing is sure to be the highlight of your troop's summer schedule. Colorado is cool and refreshing in the summer and Wilderness Aware Rafting is eager to help you "get your feet wet"! Please join us! >>> Scout Group Rates
