Job Description

Serves as a shuttle driver for Arkansas River rafting trips. Works out of the main
Wilderness Aware office in Buena Vista. Will drive and back vehicles with trailers. Is a member of a growing
company, with an emphasis on quality service and teamwork.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drives 12 and 15 passenger vans, and 45 passenger buses (with air brakes).
  • Pulls 16-foot boat trailer, loaded or unloaded on Arkansas shuttles.
  • Backs these vehicles with trailers in tight spaces at put-ins and take-outs.
  • Safely drives in various road conditions, on dirt roads and highways.
  • Helps load gear into or out of vehicle or trailer, helps with boat loading at put-ins and take-outs, assists with rigging and de-rigging of boats, and instructs passengers to keep paddles and lifejackets until we return to the office. This is done when appropriate and requested.
  • Conducts daily vehicle maintenance and pre-trip inspections: Fuel vehicle, check and fill oil, check fluids, clean windows, sweep out vehicles, check lights, trailer connections, and lights, etc. Wash and wax vehicles as needed. Report needed repairs and parts to the
  • Operations Manager and in his/her absence report to the President.
  • Complete repairs when possible.
  • Maintain a clean, neat appearance of office grounds including trash pickup, weed cutting, and recycling.
  • Looks for ways to better serve the guest and the company.
  • Maintain a good sense of humor and cooperative attitude in dealing with co-workers and guests.
    Communicate well with managers and co-workers.
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Evaluated on thoroughness in performing duties, pleasant attitude, punctuality, dependability, ability as a team player, initiative, mature judgment, relationships with co-workers and guests, flexibility, and willingness to learn.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Operations Manager. In his/her absence, reports to the
President.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING:

  • Experience preferred.
    Must be 23 years of age.
  • Must have or must obtain CDL w/P1 and associated medical card.
  • Must be able to pass mandatory drug testing.
    Should be patient and good with people. Must be able to work long hours during rush periods and not be subject to burnout or moodiness.
  • Must work well under pressure.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Good Driving record back 35 months.

SCHEDULE: Variable hours. Paid for actual shuttle and maintenance time.
20-50 hours/week. Days off vary, not always consecutive.

PAY: If RV camping at WA-Rental rate is $150/month, payable out of paycheck. Pay rate for 1st year work
campers is $17 and free space rent.
